Meditation



Meditation is becoming more and more a part of our social life.

And no wonder, it works and everyone can do it!

What is meditation?

The starting point of meditation is always concentration and attention. It is the technique that brings peace to the body and mind. Meditation teaches us to become more conscious and alert. Regular meditation helps us relax, become calm and wiser. We remain balanced whatever happens in the world around us.

There are many ways to meditate. During the Algarve art and walk weeks we offer sitting, guided, singing Bowl, and walking meditation. Something special in our programme is the building of cairns on the beach. The making of a cairn is a meditation, demanding attention and concentration. This is a centuries old tradition where a pilgrim would add a stone to a cairn (or Irish carn) (a pile of stones, often in a conical form) that would show others who followed, that they were on the correct path.
In the wonderful ambiance of a beautiful, pure beach with a cool wind, this undertaking brings balance, relaxation and leaves a composition that will be seen by all who follow.


For many years Else has had lessons from Sogyal Rinpoche and follows retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh.
